Simplifying MTD IT for Accountants' Clients

As an accountant, you are likely to have clients who’ll prefer to handle their own Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD IT) digital record keeping and quarterly submissions for convenience or cost.

They’ll still rely on you, though, for their year-end review, clean-up, and compliance.

If you want a simple way to help those clients meet their MTD IT obligations, TaxNavQ is the solution.

It enables your clients to meet the MTD IT criteria and submit quarterly directly to HMRC. It also provides you with their detailed transaction data so you can complete the final-year-end adjustments and prepare their annual return.

TaxNav eases the process for your clients

At TaxNav, we’re helping self-employed and property income earners prepare for these changes. Our HMRC-recognised software, combined with our support, makes it easier to maintain digital records, submit the required quarterly updates, and stay fully compliant with HMRC’s MTD IT reporting requirements.

For example, with TaxNavQ your clients don’t have to give up the way they already record their income and expenses. They can continue using their own spreadsheet (or use our ready-made spreadsheets) and simply link via the TaxNav app. The summary totals are automatically imported into the software and sent securely to HMRC, keeping your client fully compliant with MTD IT and with minimum fuss.

What MTD IT involves for self-employed and property income earners

If your clients receive self-employment and or property income above the mandatory threshold, MTD IT will change how they manage their tax reporting. Instead of filing one annual Self-Assessment, they will need to:

  • Keep digital records of income and expenses in HMRC-recognised software for each income stream
  • Send quarterly updates of their year-to-date income and expense costs to HMRC
  • Advise you to review at year-end, their submissions already made

Missing a deadline will lead to HMRC penalties, so preparing early is essential.
